Prime Minister Modi introduced the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme in 2019. Landowner farmer families from across the country will be eligible for income support through the Scheme, provided they own cultivable land.
Beneficiaries of the Scheme receive a total of Rs 6,000 per year, split evenly among three payments of Rs 2,000 every four months. The PM Kisan instalment is paid out in three equal instalments over the fiscal year (April-July, August-November, and December-March).
The PM-KISAN Scheme was first introduced in February 2019 and initially only applied to families of small and marginal farmers who owned a total of up to 2 hectares of land. Later in 2019 (in June to be exact), the Scheme was changed so that it would benefit all farmer families regardless of the number of their landholdings.
