The greatest wildlife highway corridor in Asia will soon pass through India; here is all the information you need to know about the forthcoming Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, which would shorten travel time between the two cities and safeguard wildlife, will soon become Asia’s largest wildlife highway corridor.
The Rajaji National Park is home to Asia’s longest elevated wildlife corridor, which spans a whopping 12 kilometres.
It used to take six hours to get from Delhi to Dehradun, but that’s all going to change thanks to a new expressway being built.

Similarly, the 5-hour drive between Delhi and Haridwar would now just take 2 hours thanks to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway.
Nitin Gadkari recently posted on Twitter after the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway construction made progress.
The final 20 km travel through a vulnerable ecological area of Raja Ji National Park, in which Asia’s longest elevated wildlife route (12 km)—which includes a 340 m Daat Kali tunnel—is being built.
The nearby fauna will be safeguarded by the tunnel.
Regarding the construction of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway
A mix of brownfield & greenfield projects, the 210 km Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Highway project by NHAI was authorized for development in 2020 as part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana’s Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor.
On February 26, 2021, Nitin Gadkari laid the cornerstone for the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway.
The Delhi-Dehradun road will cut the distance between the two cities’ travel times in half, from six hours to just 2.5.
The expressway is still being built, but once it is, it will link the cities of Saharanpur, Bhagpat, Shamli, and Ghaziabad with the city of Dehradun in Uttarakhand.
The project’s cost for the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway
The Delhi-Dehradun highway is projected to open in 2023 at a total projected price of more than 12,000 crores.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway phases
There are four phases to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway.
The project would be divided into two phases: Phase 1 will run between Akshardham and Baghpat (Delhi to Uttar Pradesh), while Phase 2 will start in Baghpat and terminate in Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh).
Phase 3 will begin in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and end at Ganeshpur, Uttarakhand, and Dehradun, respectively (Uttarakhand).
