Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADGP) Deo, who is also in command of women and children’s affairs, has reported that numerous false rumours about the case have been spreading on different social media platforms. Over four thousand female college students call the dormitory home. Authorities have taken one into custody. He elaborated, “Her phone is currently in the possession of the police, and it is being analysed by the state cybercrime section.”

The accused girl created the video herself; police found no MMS: Police

During his visit to the Chandigarh University campus following the Saturday night protests, Punjab’s Additional Director General of Police Gurpreet Deo told reporters that the female student appeared to have shared a clip of herself with the youth and that no objectionable videos of any other students were discovered. Reports that films showing numerous female students in the varsity hostel were recorded and posted online and that heartbroken students had attempted suicide were also deemed “false and unsubstantiated” by university officials.

Extreme demonstrations lead to the detention of a woman hosteller and two others.

A female university student and two men have been arrested thus far in connection with the incident, which has sparked widespread outrage. On Sunday, two people were arrested and a third was held in connection with the leaking of offensive recordings of Chandigarh University students. Sunny Mehta has been named as the suspect who was apprehended. The young man hails from the Rohru Sub division of Shimla district, which is located about 130 kilometres north of the nearest town.

Rankaj Verma, 31, has been arrested and named as the detained individual. A team led by Shimla’s Superintendent of Police, Dr Monika, was able to apprehend both suspects, and they were turned over to the Punjab Police from the Rohur & Dhalli police stations.

The police have denied reports of attempted suicide.

The student protesters also claimed that several female dormitory residents had attempted suicide after the recordings went viral. But the cops said the suicide attempts weren’t true. DNA and other forensic evidence are being gathered. No one has reported a suicide attempt as of yet. Students’ medical history has been recorded for posterity. The police have warned the public not to believe any rumours.

In addition, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amit Talwar of Mohali reported that no suicides had been reported. As far as I know, no suicide details have been made public. That’s just a rumour going around. We have not been informed that a suicide has occurred,” Deputy Chief Talwar said.

Students disagree with what the university calls “baseless” claims

A high-level probe has been ordered into the event. Severe action will be done against anybody who is found responsible.” “I am in communication with the administration,” Mann added.

Himachal Pradesh’s chief minister Jairam Thakur has stated that his state’s police are providing full cooperation.

The Aam Aadmi Party’s leader and Delhi’s chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has promised students at Chandigarh University that those responsible for leaking the film will be punished severely. A female student from Chandigarh University has gone viral after she recorded several other female students engaging in inappropriate behaviour. The situation is grave and disgraceful. Everyone who is to blame for this will be severely punished. Girls who are victims are brave. We support you completely. All be patient, Kejriwal wrote on Twitter.

The incident at #chandigarhuniversity is terrible,” Amarinder Singh, a former chief minister of Punjab, stated. The perpetrators ought to be held to a very high standard of punishment. Our daughters’ safety and respectability must be our primary priorities. I hope the police take this seriously and punish the perpetrators severely.

Punjab Congress leader Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, former cm Amarinder Singh, Shiromani Akali Dal chief & former Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and senior Congress politician Partap Singh Bajwa all called for an impartial investigation and harsh penalties for those responsible.
