According to the education ministry, President Droupadi Murmu has given his approval for the appointment of directors to eight IITs, including the reappointment of two directors for additional terms. Rajat Moona, the director of IIT Bhilai, has been chosen to lead IIT Gandhinagar, while Pasumarthy Seshu, the director of IIT Dharwad, has been picked to lead IIT Goa. Directors of two IITs have been selected for the top position at various IITs.
The Director of IIT Dharwad has been named Venkayappaya R Desai from the Civil Engineering Department at IIT Kharagpur. IIT Bhilai’s Director will be Rajiv Prakash from the School of Material Science & Technology at IIT BHU.
K N Satyanarayana (IIT Tirupati) & Manoj Singh Gaur (IIT Kanpur) are the two reappointed IIT directors (IIT Jammu). IIT Madras professors Seshadri Sekhar and Shreepad Karmalkar have been named as the new heads of IIT Palakkad and IIT Bhubaneshwar, respectively.

Professor Venkayappaya R. Desai of the Civil Engineering Department of IIT Kharagpur has been named Director of IIT Dharwad. Professor Rajiv Prakash of the School of Material Science & Technology at IIT BHU will now lead IIT Bhilai as its director.
The MoE requested applications for the six new IITs (Dharwad, Goa, Palakkad, Jammu, Bhilai, and Tirupati) last year. The job posting from October 18 specified that the ideal candidate would have a PhD with a first-class or equivalent at the previous degree, ideally in the field of engineering.
IIT Bhubaneswar has been without a permanent leader since April 2020, when the term of R V Rajakumar, the last director, concluded after five years.
