Ratan Tata is among the new trustees appointed by Narendra Modi to the PM CARES Fund.

The trustees recognised the PM CARES Fund’s efforts and contribution to helping the nation during challenging times like the epidemic.

The Prime Minister’s Office announced on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the PM CARES Fund, during which he was updated on the multiple initiatives that the government has undertaken under the scheme, including the PM CARES for Children, which is currently providing financial assistance to 4,345 children (PMO).

On May 29, 2021, the Prime Minister announced a new initiative called PM CARES for Children to aid children who have lost both biological or legal parents, guardians, adoptive parents, or surviving parents due to the COVID-19 pandemic between March 11, 2020, and February 28, 2022.

The PM CARES Fund’s efforts to aid the country during a pandemic were recognised and lauded by the board of trustees. In his address, PM Modi congratulated the citizens of India for their kind contributions to the fund and expressed his appreciation to the Trustees for their participation.

The Prime Minister spoke at the event and called for more trustees to be added so that the fund could be “more responsive to varied public demands.”

“The PM CARES Fund will benefit from the fresh viewpoints brought on board by the new Trustees and Advisors. Given their extensive background in public service, they would inject new vitality into the fund, allowing it to better meet a wide range of public needs “to paraphrase the Prime Minister.

The PMO announced that former Supreme Court Justice Shri KT Thomas, former Deputy Speaker Shri Karia Munda, and business magnate Shri Ratan Tata have joined the PM CARES Fund’s board of trustees.

The Trust has chosen to nominate Rajiv Mehrishi, India’s former controller & auditor general, Sudha Murthy, India’s former chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, and Anand Shah, India’s co-founder of the Teach for India programme, to serve on the Advisory Board to the PM CARES Fund.
