After losing Shafali Verma (1) early, India was in a precarious position, but Mandhana and wicketkeeper batter Yastika Bhatia put on 96 runs to relieve some of the burden (50). The opener for the Indian women’s squad has been likened to the great Sourav Ganguly for her off-side shooting prowess.
The southpaw also contributed to India’s commanding lead by combining with Harmanpreet, the team’s captain, for a 99-run partnership for the third wicket. By being removed by Kate Cross, Mandhana fell short of her century by nine runs.
After the game, Mandhana expressed her regret at not scoring a century and thanked the many Indian fans who travelled to County Ground, Hove to cheer on their team.
A huge thank you to the Indian audience for coming out to see the show; we’re glad we could put on a show for you, although I wish I’d enjoyed it more if I had stayed not out,” the speaker stated “In the presentation following the game, Mandhana made the following statement.
The southpaw has stated that the 50-over game is more comfortable for her than T20 Internationals since she can better pace her innings in the longer game.
“I prefer to go out and time the ball, so the One Day format is a usual position for me. In Twenty20 Internationals, though, I need to focus on my strike rate.” Extremely pleased to have contributed to India’s victory in whatever format, “what she said was added.
Indian bowlers took advantage of the circumstances to limit England to 227/7 in their permitted 50 overs after India had elected to field first. Six of the seven Indian bowlers used all took at least one wicket, with spinner Deepti Sharma having the most success with 2-33 from her 10 overs.
