There was a time when the top 10 selling models in India included every hatchback brand. But things are shifting in India. Although SUVs are becoming more popular, hatchbacks make up the bulk of the list entries.
Sales of 24,844 units in September 2022 put the Maruti Suzuki Alto at the top of the list. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R came in second with sales of 20,078. Now moving on, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, another hatchback, took the number three spot.
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza, whose sales of 15,445 placed it in fourth place in September, is at the forefront of the shift in momentum we mentioned at the time. The Tata Nexon came in at number five on the list of India’s best-selling automobiles, selling 14,518 units in total. Finally, the Hyundai Creta, another SUV, sold 12,866 units last year.
The Maruti Suzuki Eeco came in at number seven, selling a total of 12,697 units. With 12,251 copies sold in September, Tata Punch follows Eeco on the best-selling list. The Maruti Suzuki Swift came in at number eight, followed by the Hyundai Venue at number nine. Compared to Hyundai Venue’s 11,033 vehicles sold, Maruti Suzuki Swift shifted 11,988.
