While there are numerous initiatives being carried out by individual state governments of each state in this regard, the Indian Army has made a concerted, synergized, and integrated effort through a series of adventure activities across the majority of the border regions, from Sikkim to almost the Easternmost tip of Arunachal Pradesh.
Notably, according to the most recent reports, a trans-theatre adventure activity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) was organised this year, in which numerous adventure activities, including white river rafting, mountaineering expeditions, mountain biking, and trekking were conducted. Local talent and civilian enthusiasts from the area participated in this activity very actively.
According to the press release, the highlight of the aforementioned programme was the Civil-Military collaboration in aggressively marketing adventure travel across Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh in difficult locations that were not widely recognised up until this point.
According to reports, as part of the plan, the Army also began a three-month long series of missions, which comprised several trips to entice more and more tourists.
According to the statement, most of the roads along the LAC have never been travelled by people owing to the inaccessibility of the locations. The endeavour reached 11 locations along the LAC, with the peak of Mt. Jonsong—located at the triangular intersection of India, Nepal, and Tibet—being the most notable. This was just the third time in history that this had happened.
The campaign “created a buzz in the adventure tourism circuit and has enhanced awareness about the possibilities of adventure tourism in North-East India,” according to a news release.
