The nine-day festival honouring Goddess Durga, Sharad Navratri, has begun, and believers around the world are rejoicing. During Navratri, devotees pay homage to Maa Durga in her many guises. On the fourth day of Navaratri, devotees honour the goddess Kushmanda.

During September and October, the Bengali community celebrates Durga Pujo, which is also known as Sharadiya Navratri. What they have in common is the celebration of the triumph of good over evil. Mata Kushmanda is honoured on the fourth day of the Navratri, also known as Chaturthi Tithi. Ku means “a bit,” Ushma means “warmth” or “energy,” and Anda means “cosmic egg.” Legend has it that the goddess Kushmanda smiled the universe into existence.
On the 4th day of Navaratri, devotees pay homage to Kushmanda, a form of Durga. People believe that when this incarnation of Durga smiled, she drove off the darkness forever. As a result, every statue depicting the goddess in this guise beams with goodwill.
Maa Kushmanda, the wife of Lord Shiva, is said to boost the well-being of her worshippers. She also blesses her devotees with great fortune and power.
