CNG Cylinders Hydro Test: As per Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, it is mandatory to mention the CNG fuel mode on the RC of every CNG-powered vehicle.
CNG Cylinders Hydro Testing Rules: Due to the rising price of petrol, many people are contemplating shifting to CNG cars and a large number of people are already using CNG cars. But, when you are using CNG cars, you need to be aware of some rules. These rules also include the rules related to the Hydra test of CNG cylinders.
As per Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, it is mandatory to mention the CNG fuel mode on the RC of every CNG-powered vehicle. At the same time, according to Indian Standard 8451: 2009, it is mandatory that all vehicle owners operating on CNG should get their CNG cylinders hydro-tested every three years. Hydro test of CNG cylinder is mandatory every three years.
All CNG-powered vehicles should be fitted with a compliance plate at the appropriate place on the vehicle and should have valid Hydro Test Certificate as per Gas Cylinder Rules 2004. This is available after conducting hydro-testing of CNG cylinders every three years. The date of last cylinder test should be written on each CNG cylinder and compliance plate.
Why hydro test of the CNG cylinder is necessary?
Actually, by hydro-testing it is ensured that the CNG cylinder is fit for use or not. If the cylinder does not pass the hydro test, then it is not fit for use. Such CNG cylinders should not be used as there is a risk of it bursting, which can be a risk to the lives of the people sitting in the car.
