The next Grand Theft Auto game was revealed to be in production earlier this year by Rockstar Games, confirming a number of leaks and rumours surrounding the much anticipated release.
The lack of information around GTA 6 meant that gamers who have been anticipating the series’ next instalment since 2013’s GTA V would have to continue to wait forever before learning anything about the new game.
That changed earlier this month when GTA 6 leaks of its assets circulated like wildfire online. A number of in-game clips and pieces of code were leaked, and they provided extensive information about the game, including details on the map, gameplay mechanics, and NPC (Non-player character) systems.
The leaks also corroborated a number of other rumours that had previously surfaced, such as the first-ever female protagonist in Rockstar Games history. Here is all the information we currently have on GTA 6.
Following the release of the leaked film, Rockstar Games made an official declaration that GTA 6 was in fact in production but withheld more details.
Although there is no official release date, it seems that GTA 6 will be released between April 2023 and March 2024 if we look at Rockstar Games’ parent firm Take-Two Interactive.
Take-Two Interactive said that they would invest more than $89 million during the aforementioned time period in a 2020 SEC filing. Having said that, nothing is definite at this time, therefore we encourage you to treat information with scepticism.
Additionally, Rockstar has yet to release an official trailer for the game, indicating that it is still in the early phases of production and may take them a year or two.
The newly released gameplay videos also imply that Vice City, a fictitious recreation of Miami, may serve as the setting for GTA 6. Rockstar Games intends to regularly add new towns and interior areas to the game after launch, according to a Bloomberg report. Players may be able to travel between North America and South America, according to certain rumours.
It could also be the first GTA game to include a female protagonist and a pair that closely resembles Bonnie and Clyde, two notorious American criminals. The freshly released gameplay video supports all of this. Following the leak, Rockstar added a confirmation that the event won’t have an impact on the game’s development. Additionally, it seems that GTA 6 development has advanced given the company’s recent hiring frenzy.
