Criminal Squad (2013)

There aren’t many films like Gangster Squad being produced today, and it’s easy to understand why. Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling play outlaw police officers attempting to take down Sean Penn’s portrayal of infamous Los Angeles mobster Mickey Cohen in Ruben Fleischer’s action film.
As Cohen’s girlfriend, Emma Stone also serves as Gosling’s love interest in the film (more on that as we go). Stone is entirely wasted in this role, aside from their natural chemistry, as the character feels more like set decoration than a complete person.
The House Bunny (2008)

The House Bunny, an Anna Faris comedy, has developed a cult following in the 14 years (we feel ancient) since its debut, but it also highlights the contrast between Faris’ and Emma Stone’s professional trajectories.
In the comedy The House Bunny, Stone plays a reserved, bookish teen who is just starting to come out of her shell. The film is set in a college setting and attempts to give Faris’ eponymous character the Legally Blonde treatment. Double Tap in Zombieland (2019)

How much change a decade can bring. Coming as it did, just as we were all beginning to grow weary of the zombie boom, Zombieland was a surprising cult hit. We are totally done with Double Tap. We’re actually worn out. Jesse Esienberg, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, and Abigail Breslin, who are all returning actors, all appear to be as well.
Stone does the least well as Wichita among the four, not because she is horrible but more because between the first film and Double Tap, she developed into a true superstar who shouldn’t be had to play roles this thin. We can only hope that this franchise will double-tap itself before a trilogy is finished.
The Aid (2011)

In the years since its publication, The Help has not held up well. Despite its good intentions, it has—along with films like The Green Mile, Driving Miss Daisy, and the absurd Green Book—become a powerful illustration of the white saviour cliche and Hollywood’s propensity to congratulate itself on its own views on diversity.
