Ponniyin Selvan-I, the film:
The film Ponniyin Selvan-I, starring Jayam Ravi as the future Rajaraja Chola I, is inspired by Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 work of historical fiction with the same name. In the sequel, he will presumably have more screen time.
Vandiyathevan travels throughout Chola land to convey a message from Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan. Kundavai seeks to restore peace in the government while his vassals and subordinate chieftains plot to kill him. The nation is in upheaval as long-tailed comet streaks through the sky, portending a time of unrest.
Those who saw the long-awaited film thought it was good. With the help of Allirajah Subaskaran and Lyca Productions, Ponniyin Selvan-I has been localised into five languages: Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, & Malayalam. Music superstar AR Rahman composed the film’s score, and acclaimed cinematographer Ravi Varman was in charge of the camera work.
