The Toyota Corolla Altis is a Flexi-Fuel Powerful Hybrid Electric Vehicle (FFV-SHEV), powered by a 1.8L gasoline engine and a 1.3 kWh battery pack.
The first of its type pilot project on Flexi-Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FFV-SHEV) in India was unveiled by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road, Transport, and Highways, and it is a Toyota Corolla Altis Flex-fuel automobile. The goal of this study is to determine if flexible fuel vehicles powered by ethanol can be successfully implemented in the Indian market.

To further investigate the topic of carbon emissions from FFVs and FFV-SHEVs in the Indian context, the obtained information will be shared with the esteemed Indian Institute of Science as part of this initiative. Regarding this topic, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) as well as the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

Senior executives from Toyota Kirloskar Motor, including Managing Director & CEO Mr Masakazu Yoshimura, Vice Chairman Mr Vikram S. Kirloskar, Executive Vice President Mr Vikram Gulati, and Senior Vice President & Chief Communication Officer Mr Sudeep S. Dalvi, were also present.
At the event site for the launch, Gadkari hopped in the driver’s seat of a left-hand-drive Corolla Altis hybrid and took it for a spin. The Toyota Brazil-made flex-fuel vehicle was shipped here. It is equipped with a 1.8L ethanol petroleum hybrid engine that can operate on fuel with an ethanol concentration of 20-100%, producing roughly 101 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque. The combination of the gasoline engine and the 1.3 kWh battery generates 72 horsepower and 163 Nm of torque. The continuously variable transmission is coupled to this set of engine and drivetrain components.
Toyota’s hydrogen-powered Mirai automobile was unveiled in India, and Gadkari was on hand to help kick off another test project for the company. It’s clear that the Indian government wants to lessen its reliance on oil imports, thus it’s actively promoting alternative fuel for vehicles. Environmentally friendly automobiles like these contribute to reducing pollution levels.
Three flex-fuel grades—E95, E90, and E85—have been developed and production has begun in India. All of the above fuel classes get their names from the ratio of gasoline to ethanol in the mixture.
