Sonali Phogat was born on 21 September 1979, in Bhuthan Kalan Village, Fatehabad and grew up in Hisar, Haryana. Her father was a farmer and had one brother and three sisters

Sonali's husband, politician Sanjay Phogat, died under mysterious circumstances in 2016. His body was found in a field near their family's farmhouse. The actress revealed that everything changed after her husband's death because people would call her names and assassinate her character.

Sonali Phogat made her telivision debut in 2006 by appearing as an anchor in a Haryanvi Show on Doordarshan. In 2019, She featured in the web series "The Story of Badmashgarh." Sonali has also featured in the music video of the Haryanvi song " Bandook AAli Jaatnu" (2019).

2019, She contested Haryana Assembly Election from the Adampur Constituency. However, She lost the elections to congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi by a margin of 29471 votes. She made the National Vice  President of BJP Mahila Morcha. And She Joined BJP in 2008.

On 5 June 2020, a video went viral on social media in which she was seen slapping an official with her slippers, allegedly over a comment he made. The incident happened when she went to Sultan Singh, a member of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee, with the list of farmer's complaints.

Sonali Phogat died of a heart attack in Goa at the age of 42.
