Railways announce a policy to replace all of its traditional fuel-powered vehicles with electric vehicles by 2025.

The planned timetable for the zones by the railways calls for the installation of EV-charging stations and the phase-out of 20% of its fleet by December 2023, 60% by 2024, and 100% by 2025.

The policy calls for the construction of sizable charging infrastructure at important office buildings, parking lots, and railroad stations.

Since officials would need inspection vehicles for frequent excursions to far-flung places where suitable charging stations may not exist, it is unlikely that they will be replaced in the divisional offices and related units within the first three years.

Additionally, the railways will install a convenient and reasonably priced charging infrastructure for the general public, passengers, and tourists to utilise while on the grounds. The zonal railroads’ top brass has been instructed to instruct their staff to set aside parking spots in office buildings and at stations for EV-charging infrastructure construction.

The intent is to have charging point operators (CPOs) install EV charging stations there. The railways may impose a parking fee for the use of the charging infrastructure. With a mobile app, EV drivers can find charging stations, schedule appointments, and make electronic payments to CPOs.

Installing the chargers would follow the regulations set forth by the Central Electricity Authority or even other relevant bodies.
